Melaka Straits Mosque (Masjid Selat)

Contemporary floating mosque with stunning sunset views.

The Melaka Straits Mosque, also known as Masjid Selat, is a contemporary architectural marvel that appears to float on the waters of the Straits of Melaka during high tide. Completed in 2006, this mosque combines Middle Eastern and Malay architectural elements with modern design features, creating a striking landmark on Melaka's coastline. The mosque's gleaming white structure is accented with golden domes and a 30-meter minaret, which are beautifully illuminated with colorful lights after dark. With a capacity to accommodate up to 2,000 worshippers, the mosque welcomes Muslim visitors for prayer and non-Muslims outside prayer times (with appropriate dress). The mosque is particularly popular at sunset, when the combination of the setting sun, the mosque's reflection in the surrounding waters, and the illuminated building create a magical tableau that attracts photographers and visitors from around the world.
