Scenic valley with pigeon houses carved into cliff faces
Price  $

Pigeon Valley, or Güvercinlik Vadisi in Turkish, is a picturesque valley that connects Göreme to Uçhisar and gets its name from the thousands of pigeon houses (dovecotes) carved into the cliff faces throughout the valley. These man-made cavities were historically used to collect valuable pigeon droppings, which served as an important fertilizer for the region's vineyards and agricultural fields, making pigeon breeding a crucial part of the local economy for centuries.

The valley offers one of the most beautiful and accessible hiking experiences in Cappadocia, with a well-maintained trail that stretches approximately 4 kilometers through dramatic rock formations, fairy chimneys, and ancient cave dwellings. The walk typically takes 1-2 hours and provides stunning views of the surrounding valleys and Uçhisar Castle in the distance. Along the route, visitors can observe the intricate pigeon houses carved into virtually every cliff face, some decorated with colorful painted facades. The valley is also famous for its panoramic viewpoints, particularly the main Pigeon Valley viewpoint which offers spectacular photo opportunities overlooking the entire valley system.
