Red Valley, known as Kızılçukur Vadisi in Turkish, is considered one of the most beautiful valleys in Cappadocia and is famous for offering some of the most spectacular sunset views in the region. The valley gets its name from the distinctive reddish color of its volcanic rock formations, which become particularly vibrant during the golden hour when the setting sun illuminates the landscape in brilliant shades of red, orange, and pink, creating a truly magical and unforgettable experience.
The valley offers excellent hiking opportunities with several well-marked trails of varying difficulty levels that wind through dramatic fairy chimneys, ancient cave churches, and stunning rock formations. The most popular trail is the Red Valley to Rose Valley hike, which takes approximately 2-3 hours and provides breathtaking views throughout the journey. Along the trails, visitors can explore several rock-cut churches including the Church of St. John the Baptist and the Columned Church, both featuring beautiful frescoes and architectural details. The valley is also a popular destination for photography, rock climbing, and nature walks, with numerous viewpoints offering panoramic vistas of the surrounding landscape.
